Dr. Sigmund is an expert in the design and operation of high pressure extraction equipment. His company, HYPEX High Pressure Extraction, owns and operates a facility on Salt Spring Island.

Dr. Sigmund was instrumental in getting the supercritical and liquid carbon dioxide loop on Cava's (then Alternative Extracts Inc.) process scale Fast Freeze Extraction system to run smoothly. He has also provided valuable assistance to Cava on solvent recovery systems, extract concentration, and use of supercritical carbon dioxide to further process and clean up extracts created using other solvents. His experience with supercritical carbon dioxide preparative chromatography allows preparation of clean isolates that are well suited for medicinal purposes.

Dr. Sigmund is also active in research, which presently includes a collaboration with faculty at University of Victoria, British Columbia.
